Kako po pitanju pobedničkih naslova, tako i po pitanju samog događaja. Zbog šale (koja se podrobnije može opisati kao uvreda) koju je voditelj večeri – Chris Rock, uputio na račun supruge Willa Smitha, o Oskarima se danas bruji u nešto drugačijem maniru no što smo navikli.
Ipak, kada su u pitanju nagrađeni ushićenje naravno nije izostalo, kao ni iznenađenja u ovom domenu.
Iako se The Power of the Dog na američkim kladionicama najviše kotirao kao pobednik, pobedu u kategoriji najboljeg filma odnela je topla porodična priča o gluvonemoj porodici, dok je naučno fantastični film Dune odneo najviše Oskara, čak šest.
